Golf 'conman' to repay victims

A FRAUDSTER conned two people out of £900 and £350 by selling a non-existent set of golf clubs and various items of golf clothing.

Alan Wayte, of Glebe Rise, King’s Sutton, near Banbury, admitted to gaining the £1,2500 total through fraudulent activity from Grant Funnell and Mark Millar in 2010 and 2011.

Timothy Boswell, prosecuting, told Oxford Crown Court that Wayte’s victim had transferred all the money he and his wife had saved and took the payment with no intention of handing over any goods.

Mr Waite had been jailed for a similar “confidence fraud” in Northampton in 1997.

Stephen Parker, defending, said: “When Mr Wayte finds himself in financial difficulty he behaves in this manner.”

Judge Pringle told the defendant: “It is not the first time in your life you have tricked people.”

Although avoiding a jail sentence, My Wayte received 180 hours of unpaid work and is required to pay back the £1,250 in compensation.

In October 2009, a man was prisoned for selling Titleist counterfeit goods over the auctioning website eBay.
