Odyssey Works Versa #1 putter review
Does the new Fusion RX insert make any difference to the new Odyssey putters?

The new Odyssey Works Versa #1 is a classic heel-toe weighted putter that will likely appeal to players with a slight arc in their stroke.
Odyssey Works putters feature a new insert called Fusion RX that combines Odyssey’s famous White Hot insert with a new 0.406mm stainless steel mesh that is similar to the company’s Metal-X insert, and we found it generated good distance control on those putts outside 30 feet.
While we did not find this putter quite as forgiving as the new Odyssey Works V-Line Versa mallet, the forward roll you receive off the Fusion RX insert is arguably the strongest in the game today.
Players using the Fusion RX insert for the first time will likely be surprised with how lively the face is, but after several swipes it will quickly become second nature.
The insert provided us with a precise feel throughout, a pleasant "click" sound on centre hits and a quieter noise on off-centre strokes, therefore aiding great feedback on our stroke.
And when it comes to alignment, you could not feel more locked in to the putt with the company's Versa paint technology that comprises contrasting black and silver lines.
Odyssey also accentuates the feel of this putter by providing golfers with the option of a stock, oversized SuperStroke grip - something that encourages more of a rocking motion with the shoulders and all-but eliminates any "wristy" strokes.
Verdict
The new Fusion RX insert is more than just a fad. lt delivers arguably the best forward roll in the game today, a lovely feel and sound on centre strikes and tremendous distance control on long putts. There are certainly more forgiving putters out there, but if you are a heel-toe weighted fan prepared to splash £169, look no further than this one.
