In the Bag: Sergio Garcia
Video: TaylorMade-adidas Golf staff player goes through his bag after Qatar Masters glory
AFTER ending 2013 in style with victory in Thailand, Sergio Garcia continued to prove his game is back where it belongs on Tour when ousting Mikko Ilonen in a playoff at the Qatar Masters today.
The 34-year-old Spaniard, who has finished inside the top-four in three of his last four starts, now moves comfortably back inside the world's top ten after lifting his 11th career European Tour title.
Garcia carded a flawless final-round 65 to overturn a three-shot deficit at the start of the day, before edging Ilonen in the playoff with a two-putt birdie on the third extra hole.
Sergio trusted a full bag of TaylorMade equipment and adidas apparel, including the brand new TaylorMade SLDR driver and fairway woods, TaylorMade Tour Preferred MC irons and the adizero One golf shoe that made its Tour debut this week.
On a week when TaylorMade staff professionals wore “Loft Up” hats, Garcia played his SLDR driver a full degree of loft more than his previous driver to take advantage of the low-spinning performance of the club. Because of the low and forward design of SLDR, Tour players across the world have been “lofting up” to achieve the desirable high launch and low spin performance off the tee.
Sergio ranked fifth in driving distance averaging 299.6 yards and was one of 29 players in the Qatar Masters field who played a SLDR.
Known as one of the best ball strikers in the game, Sergio also hit 75% of his greens with his new Tour Preferred MC irons.
This was the second time in three events Sergio has played and won with the Tour Preferred MC irons, which combine a player’s shape with a shallow “muscle cavity” to boost MOI, creating an unparalleled blend of beauty, feel, workability and stability.
The 3- through 7-iron incorporate TaylorMade’s renowned Speed Pocket technology to promote increased ball speed in the lower portion of the clubface for more consistent ball speed and launch conditions across the entire face.
