Last year, South Africa's Ashleigh Buhai earned her first major title in major dramatic fashion, defeating In Gee Chun in a four-hole playoff. It was also the first time the AIG Women's Open was played at the storied Muirfield.
Other past winners of the event include Georgia Hall (2018), Inbee Park (2015), Karrie Webb (1995, 1997, 2002), and Annika Sorenstam (2003).
"I'm honoured to be the first music artist to perform at the AIG Women's Open," Goulding said, via the release. "The elevation of women's sport is something I'm a huge champion of, so I can't wait to be surrounded by inspiring women in August. I'm looking forward to seeing you all there!"
R&A CEO Martin Slumbers said the R&A and AIG's ambition is to elevate the Women's Open, per the release. He added:
LPGA stars who've already qualified for this year's AIG Women's Open include World No. 1 Lydia Ko, No. 2 Nelly Korda, and 11-time LPGA Tour winner Lexi Thompson. The winner of this year's event will earn 650 points towards the Race to the CME Globe on the LPGA Tour, and a share of the $7.3m purse.
