AIG Women's Open at Muirfield: Prize purse, winner's share
Here's the full payout info for the AIG Women's Open at Muirfield where the winner will take home seven figures for the very first time.
The winner of the AIG Women's Open at Muirfield will take home north of $1million for the very first time in the tournament's history.
In fact, the check the winner will receive will be for $1,095,000.
R&A chief executive Martin Slumbers, who has been receiving a bit of criticism from LIV Golf's Greg Norman, announced a considerable boost to the prize purse for the Women's Open earlier in the week.
He announced that the total purse was increasing to a whopping $7.3million. That means that for the very first time the winner will take home seven figures.
Slumbers confirmed that this was a 26 per cent increase from last year.
When the tournament was played at Royal Lytham & St. Annes four years ago, the total prize purse was $3.25million.
The other women's majors have also boosted their purses this year. The Chevron Championship jumped from $3million to $5million.
The U.S. Women's Open went from $4.5million to $10million after they took on the sponsor ProMedica.
Elsewhere, the KPMG Women's PGA Championship doubled it's prize money to $9million.
Canada's Brooke Henderson took home $1million when she won the Amundi Evian Championship. That purse jumped to $6.5million from $4.5million.
At the time of writing, it looked like South Africa's Ashleigh Buhai was going to take down the Claret Jug after forging a five-shot lead heading into the final round.
Japan's Hinako Shibuno, who won the major in 2019, was hot on her heels at 9-under par alongside South Korea's In Gee Chun, who held the 36-hole lead.
