PXG London South Fitting Experience Review
GolfMagic visited PXG's London South store for a full iron fitting.
If you're serious about your golf, then you should definitely experience a full club fitting at least once in your life.
Having recently managed to get my handicap down to single figures, I was treated to a visit to PXG's London South store to get fitted for new Irons.
Situated in Esher, just outside of London, PXG's newest fitting centre is a golfing paradise.
From the moment you turn up and walk through the store, you know you're in for a real treat.

Flanked on all sides my the brand's latest apparel, bags, balls and accessories, I was quickly ushered into one of two fitting bays that are located in the back of the store.
Lining the walls are every single brand of shaft you can think of, while PXG's full line of wedges, woods and irons are neatly presented in cases at the back of each bay.
I was fortunate enough to be fitted by Miguel who had recently joined the brand. An experienced club fitter, Miguel had an encyclopaedic knowledge of what the brand offered and how to get the most out of each club.
Before we began to think about PXG clubs, Miguel had me hit a few of my current gamers, for a warm up and to get a feel for some baseline numbers.
Feeling suitably loose after nine or ten seven iron shots, it was time to dive into the good stuff.
Straight off the bat Miguel decided that PXG's 0311 Gen7 P irons were probably best suited to my skill level and speed, so we started there, and after he had talked me through all the new tech, including the precision weighting technology, and PXG's new QuantumCor core material, we were ready to start getting some numbers.
Once we had figured out the model of head was correct it was then time to really begin to tinker with setup.
Switching various shafts, lengths, lie angles and swing weights, I hit close to 90 shots, with the data perfectly presented on the screen next to me thanks to the TrackMan launch monitor in the fitting bay.
The most shocking aspect of the fitting was how much of a difference only a small amount of weight in the shaft made to performance.
For example, I currently game a 105 gram shaft, and when hitting the same shaft in the PXG irons I was able to carry my 7-iron on average about 177 yards.
We tinkered with the idea of increasing the weight of the shaft up to 115, to see if there would be an increase in ball speed, but the resulting impact was that I struggled to load the club properly and as a result my ball striking went completely out of the window, with average carry dropping to 160 yards.
Although on the face of things it was only a small weight change, the difference it made to performance was vast.
Another fascinating area that we were able to explore during the fitting was changing swing weight in each individual iron.
As a result of PXG's precision weighting technology, you can alter the swing weight of each iron without changing the centre of gravity, due to the moveable weight in the head that is positioned directly behind the face.
This is an option that is unique to PXG and one that makes a very big difference. Being able to alter the swing weight of each individual iron allowed me to have a slightly lighter swing weight from 4-9 iron, and heavier swing weights in my wedges, which produced tighter dispersion and better control.
The options offered at PXG are honestly staggering. While almost every brand will be able to offer a wide variety of shafts, lie angles and shaft lengths, the ability to change the swing weight of individual irons is one that I have only experienced with PXG.
Once swing weight, shaft length, shaft weight and lie angle were fully dialled in it was time to take the finished product out onto a virtual course, to see if the clubs could perform under pressure.
Thanks to the software on offer we were able to select a hole length, pin position, and course conditions, which is an excellent additional feature that gives you a much better idea of how accurately you are hitting it compared to a 100 yard wide range.
Verdict
The fitting experience at PXG London South is truly exceptional. From the facilities to the staff and obviously the clubs themselves, it was a memorable couple of hours and one that had a big impact in the level of performance I was able to get out of my clubs.
If you are interested in purchasing a set of PXG irons, I would highly recommend you go and pay Miguel and the whole team at PXG London South a visit.
