VIEW DEAL

Ram has gone about its business quite quietly this year, but under the radar, it has produced some really lovely irons at a remarkably competitive price point.

The latest addition to the lineup is the Axial Forged bladed players irons. Available at £439.99 (4-PW) or £399.99 (5-PW), these irons come in at a price point well below that of Titleist, Callaway or Mizuno.

With premium shaft options available from the likes of KBS, True Temper and UST, as well as quality grips on offer from Lamkin and Winn, the question must be asked, how do these irons compare to those almost double the price?

Well, thankfully I was sent a full set recently, and having dug deep into the data at Custom Golf Works, I've also tested them out on course at Mannings Heath Golf and Wine Estate.

So, let's get into it.

Player Level

These bladed irons are best suited to low handicap golfers who are accomplished ball strikers and desire workability and feel over forgiveness and power.

RAM Axial Forged Irons Looks and Feel

There is honestly so much to love about these irons, and looks are one of the standout areas.

RAM has clearly not tried to overcomplicate things with these irons and it's really worked. The small muscle pad, milled detailing, and minimal RAM branding all work so well together to produce a truly excellent looking iron.

Sat behind the ball they continue to impress, with the short blade length, thin topline and minimal offset all delivering on what we generally expect from a bladed players iron.

The high chrome finish does tend to produce some glare in direct sunlight, but honestly it was an issue we only noticed on maybe one or two occasions.

Struck from the middle these irons certainly do deliver that forged players feel we have come to expect, although we would have to say they are slightly firmer than the likes of Mizuno or Srixon.

You certainly know about it when you hit one out of the toe or heel, but that level of responsiveness is to be expected from an iron in this category.

Considering the cost, we have to hand it to RAM, these are irons both look and feel well above their price point.

RAM Axial Forged Irons Performance and Forgiveness

RAM Axial Forged Irons Performance

I would not consider myself an elite ball striker, and as a result I don't game blades. So I will be honest when I say my expectations were quite low regarding my own performance when using these clubs.

With that being said, the first thing I was really impressed by with these irons was the level of forgiveness they offer.

Blades and forgiveness are two words you don't typically put together, but I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by what these irons had to offer.

The distance was right around what I was expecting with these clubs, and coming in at 31 degrees for a seven iron it should be said these irons are quite strongly lofted for blades.

The numbers we were able to get across the board stayed consistent through testing, and spin rates in particular were very consistent even when struck from slightly out of the toe or heel, which is always good to see.

Thanks to the multi surface sole, turf interaction was also clean, aiding the overall feel and performance of the irons.

Should you buy a set of RAM Axial Forged Irons?

If you're looking to purchase a set of forged blades, but you don't want to break the bank to do so, then you should absolutely purchase a set of Axial Forged irons from RAM.

Considering the price, these are irons are one of the deals of the year, delivering feel and performance almost equal to irons twice to three times the price.
