Rasmus Hojgaard wins fourth DP World Tour title after gruelling six-hole playoff
Rasmus Hojgaard became the first Danish winner of the Made In HimmerLand event on Sunday.
Rasmus Hojgaard made history on Sunday as he became the first Danish winner of the DP World Tour's Made In HimmerLand tournament.
But it certainly didn't come easily.
Hojgaard, 22, entered the final round in Farso, Denmark three strokes back of Spain's Nacho Elvira, who led at 13-under par.
However, Hojgaard went on a birdie tear Sunday, recording an incredible 6-under 64 in his home tournament.
His final-round scorecard consisted of seven birdies and just one bogey en route to tie the second-lowest round of the day.
Matthew Southgate had the low 18-hole honours Sunday after nearly shooting 59. Instead, he settled for a still-impressive 9-under 61 and finished tied for 10th.
Hojgaard, in at 13-under par after completing 72 holes, was then forced to wait as Elvira finished his final 18 holes.

Elvira, searching for his second DP World Tour title, made a bogey on the last hole to drop a shot and create a playoff between himself and the home-crowd favourite.
What followed was a gruelling six-hole playoff as both players continued to make pars at the par-4 18th.
Finally, by the sixth playoff hole, Hojgaard was able to secure the victory after a wayward second shot by Elvira.

With it, he became the first-ever Danish winner of the event, and earned his fourth DP World Tour title at just 22 years old.
“I’m speechless at the moment," Hojgaard told the DP World Tour after the playoff. "To be fair, I didn’t think I’d end up in a playoff – it’s quite amazing. To win a home event, it’s amazing.
