LIV Golf's Cameron Smith hit out at the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR) before confirming he will extend his stay on the DP World Tour during the month of November.

Smith, 30, has fallen from second to 12th in the OWGR this season as a result of LIV Golf League tournaments still not acquiring any ranking points.

The Australian, who has won twice on LIV Golf this season, picked up two top-10 finishes in the major championships in 2023 with a T9 at the US PGA and solo 4th at the US Open.

Smith knows he is fortunate to have not slid down the rankings quite as much as some of his LIV Golf peers, but he still does not consider 12th a fair reflection of where he should be in the professional game right now.

"It’s a hard one to let go because but I feel like it’s almost become irrelevant, especially for how I’ve played," Smith told News.com.au of his world ranking slide.

"Even during the majors. I didn’t win a major this year but I had a fourth and ninth in there as well, so a pretty solid major season.

"If I didn’t play well in those four events, I think you’d find me way outside where I am at the moment.

"I don’t think it’s a very accurate reflection of where I’m at the moment, but that’s just the way it is."

Smith's world ranking fall is also likely going to see him fall out of the automatic Olympic qualification places for the Paris Games next summer.

But in a bid to try and haul himself back into the world's top 10 at least, Smith has decided to extend his stay on the DP World Tour.

Once he has finished off his LIV Golf League season, which comes to an end in October, Smith will be flying over to compete in the Hong Kong Open where OWGR points will be up for grabs.

He will then fly over to Cairns to do some fishing and spend time with family and friends before competing in the Australian PGA from November 23 to 26, where more OWGR points will be available for him.

Smith will be looking to defend his title and win it for a fourth time.

The last player to win the Australian PGA four times was Robert Allenby in 2009.

Smith will then go in search of winning his first Australian Open title the following week at The Lakes in Sydney from November 30 to December 3.
