Eddie Pepperell lands maiden European Tour title in Qatar
It's a Mizuno one-two at the Qatar Masters
Eddie Pepperell sealed his maiden European Tour title in his 129th start with a narrow one-stroke victory over compatriot Oliver Fisher at the Qatar Masters.
Pepperell carded a final-round 70 to prevail over playing-partner Fisher (71) on 18-under par.
"What a day," said the 27-year-old Englishman.
"Oli made it really tough and I made it tough for myself at the end there with the second shot at 18.
"I felt good all day, I felt comfortable. I didn't feel that comfortable with my swing but I was in a great place mentally and I kept telling myself that I'm going to win this.
"This will give me confidence. When you win, you know you can win. I've always felt and believed I will win out here but it hadn't happened before today.
"You've always got to take that step and that's uneasy but at some point in everyone's career they've got to do something for the first time. Hopefully this is not my last."
The tournament marked a successful week for Mizuno, with both Pepperell and Fisher playing the company's irons.
Pepperell plays the JPX900 Tour model from 3- to 9-iron, as well as an MP-18 MMC Fli-Hi 2-iron and four T7 wedges, while Fisher plays MP-18 SC irons from 4-9, along with MP-18 MMC Fli-Hi 2- and 3-irons and three T7 wedges.
Both Pepperell and Fisher are among 28 professionals across the world’s tours to be part of ‘Team Mizuno’ for 2018, with the line-up including several Major champions, multiple tour winners with years of experience, and promising newcomers and youngsters making their way in the professional ranks.
One thing they all have in common is that they were playing Mizuno irons before signing up to ‘Team Mizuno’ as the brand will never sign a player who doesn’t already have Mizuno equipment in the bag.
