Full Biography

Bryson James Aldrich DeChambeau is an American professional golfer who currently plays in the LIV Golf League

DeChambeau was born on 16 September 1993 to John Howard Alrich and Janet Louise Druffel in Modesto, California.

He has one sibling, a brother called Garrett.

A mercurial talent known for his analytical and scientific approach, DeChambeau had a stunning youth career.

In 2015, he became the fifth player in history to win both the NCAA Division 1 Championship and the coveted U.S. Amateur.

DeChambeau made his PGA Tour debut that year at the FedEx St. Jude Classic.

He turned professional in April 2016 and signed a long-term agreement with OEM Cobra Puma Golf

DeChambeau was one of the first players to start playing clubs of the same length.

All of his irons and wedges are cut to 37.5 inches. The lie and bounce angles are the same but only the lofts are different.

DeChambeau is also famed for his golf swing, in which he does not appear to turn his wrists.

This allows DeChambeau to keep the club on the same plane throughout.

DeChambeau developed this with instructor Mike Shy. He also uses larger grips.

His first PGA Tour victory came in July 2017 at the John Deere Classic. It was the first of eight PGA Tour wins.

The highlight of his playing career came when he claimed the 2020 U.S. Open at Winged Foot, winning by a margin of six strokes.

Another memorable moment for DeChambeau came when he won the Arnold Palmer Invitational at Bay Hill in March 2021.

During the third round of that event, DeChambeau sent the crowd into a frenzy when he hit his tee shot 370 yards over a lake at the par-5 sixth hole.

DeChambeau's PGA Tour career was an entertaining one. He was involved in severable notable exchanges with rules officials.

Elsewhere, he was also involved in a "feud" with Brooks Koepka that culminated in a grudge match.

Their annoyance for each other began in 2019 when Koepka took a dig at DeChambeau over his apparent slow play.

At the height of their dispute, commissioner Jay Monahan said any fan caught baiting DeChambeau with taunts of "Brooksy" would be kicked out.

The pair were both part of the successful 2020 U.S. Ryder Cup team that defeated Team Europe 19-9.

DeChambeau defeated Sergio Garcia in the Sunday Singles. He even drove the first green and sank a mammoth eagle putt in their match.

It was during this period that DeChambeau turned his attentions to long drive.

In October 2021, he made debut at the Professional Long Drivers Association World Championships and finished seventh.

A year later he made it to the final, losing to Germany's Martin Borgmeier, who won with a drive of 426 yards. DeChambeau's longest was 406 yards.

In February 2022, DeChambeau announced he was going to play in the inaugural, Saudi-backed LIV Golf Invitational Series.

He reportedly signed a deal worth more than $125m to join the circuit. DeChambeau had previously suggested he was not going to leave the PGA Tour.

It was a move that saw him suspended and banned by the North American circuit.

DeChambeau was named as a plaintiff in the subsequent anti-trust lawsuit against the PGA Tour.

A number of players were involved in the legal proceedings but dropped out after LIV Golf added themselves to the lawsuit.

DeChambeau remained involved, arguing that the PGA Tour were holding out on bonus money he earned during the inaugural Player Impact Program

The American made his LIV Golf debut in June 2022 at the $25m invitational in Portland, Oregon, at Pumpkin Ridge.

He is heavily involved in the team element of LIV and is the captain of Crushers GC.

DeChambeau has two LIV Golf wins to his name, both coming in 2023.

In the first of his wins at Greenbrier, he closed with LIV Golf's lowest-ever round of 58 en route to a six-stroke victory.

He also shot a 61 in the second round.

Outside of golf, DeChambeau is not married. His net worth is before he joined LIV was reported to be in the region of $15m.

His contract with Cobra Puma Golf expired at the end of 2023, making him an equipment free agent.

In 2024, DeChambeau has started up his own YouTube channel and very quickly built himself a new fan base.

He came close to landing a second career major title when finishing solo second behind Xander Schauffele at the US PGA at Valhalla in May 2024.
